Itinerary


On arrival in San José, the capital of Costa Rica, the driver will meet you at Juan Santamaría International Airport and transfer you to your hotel.

The rest of the day is free allowing you to explore the capital city of San José with its theatres (including the National Theatre of Costa Rica), museums (National Museum of Costa Rica, Pre-Columbian Gold Museum, Fidel Tristan Jade Museum, etc.), historic buildings, and beautiful parks. Alternatively, you can just sit in a café and enjoy a cup of Costa Rican coffee while you watch the daily life of the “Ticos”.

After having breakfast at the hotel in the morning, you will be transferred to the Arenal Volcano area. You will enjoy the view of the Northern Plains region, which is home to the impressive and majestic Arenal Volcano, one of Costa Rica’s natural wonders. Along your journey to the town of La Fortuna, at the foot of the volcano, you will see agricultural plantations, large ornamental plant nurseries, and cattle farms.

In the morning, accompanied by a professional guide, you will hike the Lava Flow 2010 Trail, a two-kilometre journey through the rainforest at the foot of the Arenal Volcano. After a continuous eruption activity from 1968 to 2010, the Arenal Volcano (1,633 metres) entered into a resting phase. It is the youngest stratovolcano in the country and at the same time one of the best-known and most-visited volcanoes of Costa Rica.

You will be able to observe an abundant amount of flora and fauna in the area while hiking this adventurous trail that will take you up to 620 metres (2,034 feet). At the highest point, you will see the lava flows from 1968 to 2010 and enjoy the impressive views of the majestic volcano and Lake Arenal (the largest lake in Costa Rica at 85 square kilometres) at your feet. This is definitely an unforgettable landscape!

Early in the morning, you will recharge and connect with nature by visiting the property’s nature trails. You will enjoy a birdwatching tour, which is excellent both for beginners and experienced bird-watchers. During the guided tour, you more will see various species of birds including toucans and other wildlife like monkeys and sloths. You will exhale stress and inhale peace in this beautiful surroundings where the sloths perch, the rainbow toucans stroll and the evergreen rainforest grows so captivating that you won’t want to leave.

Next, you will familiarize yourself with a fascinating Costa Rican indigenous culture and make new friends in the colourful village of Villa Maleku. They will say “Capi capi” and welcome you to their village where you will enjoy a fantastic experience full of nature, authentic culture, and traditional arts and rituals.

The day will continue with a natural spa experience (thermal springs and volcanic mud) at the resort’s thermo-mineral water pool and volcanic clay pit. You will first apply the volcanic mud on your entire body and then relax while soaking in soothing thermal water. The full-body volcanic mud mask and the hot springs will detox your skin, purify your body, relax and cleanse your mind, and nourish your soul.

The rest of the day is free, allowing you to breathe the fresh air of the tropical rainforest crossed by rivers and waterfalls in the exclusive Private Natural Reserve of the resort.

In the morning, you will be transferred to Monteverde, a small settlement in Puntarenas, located at the top of the Cordillera de Tilarán Mountain Range and an important ecotourism destination in Costa Rica. The main attraction of the area is the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve - the jewel in the crown of cloud forest reserves. Along with Cocos Island, Arenal Volcano, Cerro Chirripó Mount, Celeste River, Tortuguero, and Poás Volcano, Monteverde was deemed by popular vote one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Costa Rica.

You will have the afternoon free to enjoy the facilities of your hotel.

The day will begin with the discovery of the world-renowned Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve, where walking along trails you will be amazed by the diversity and richness of nature. Wind-sculpted elfin woodlands on the exposed crests of the windward slopes (the tallest trees do not exceed 10 metres) give way to could forests where tall trees (reaching up to 25 - 30 metres), decorated with orchids, bromeliads, ferns, vines and mosses, rise high into the sky. Located at an altitude of over 1,400 m above sea level, Monteverde has the privilege of receiving a constant supply of humidity (often in the form of fog), that traps the branches of the tallest trees and falls on the other organisms below. This humidity helps to maintain a complex and powerful ecosystem in the reserve, which is home to more than 2,500 species of plants, 100 species of mammals, 400 bird species, 120 amphibian and reptilian more species and tens of thousands of insects. The region is home to the largest number of orchids (about 420 species) on the planet.

You will discover the cloud forest in a unique and memorable way in Selvatura Park. The route of the Hanging Bridges in Selvatura Park, which consists of 3.06 kilometres of trails, will allow you to experience the cloud forest canopy at your own pace. There are eight bridges of different sizes, ranging between 57 and 170 metres in length, each of them with a width of 1.50 metres and a capacity of up to 80 people per bridge. While walking on the bridges and following different trails, you can observe the amazing wide variety of flora and fauna and the endemic biodiversity of the cloud forest canopy, found nowhere else in the world.

In the morning, you will enjoy a coffee, sugar cane and chocolate tour at Don Juan Educational Farm (Finca Educativa Don Juan). Your journey will begin with an introduction to the coffee production, beginning with the coffee seed planting and following its fascinating evolutionary cycle until roasting and grinding. You will receive a brief overview of the impressive world of coffee in Costa Rica, followed by the history of the Costa Rican coffee and its importance in the socio-economic development of the country. Coffee has been one of Costa Rica’s main exports in the 19th century, being included in the design of the country’s currency in 1838, when Costa Rica separated from the Federal Republic of Central America.

Halfway through the guided tour, you will visit the “trapiche”, a famous sugar mill where you will enjoy the sugar cane - one of the most important products in the land.

Then, you will learn everything about chocolate and discover how the delicious chocolate is made from the seeds of the Theobroma cacao (also called the cacao tree or the cocoa tree). You will be revealed the secrets of cacao transformation into the derivations that we know today: dark, white, and milk chocolate, or chocolate combined with fruits. The cacao tree was very important to the ancient culture, its seeds being used both as a ceremonial drink, and as a currency, including in Costa Rica. During the tour, you also will learn about the medicinal properties of the cocoa in the popular cocoa butter.

After breakfast at the hotel, you will descend from the northern Pacific Coast to the warmer coast of the Central Pacific reaching Manuel Antonio, home to the smallest but most visited national park in Costa Rica. Because of its beautiful beaches between coastal foothills, lush forest and abundant wildlife, Manuel Antonio National Park is considered one of the most beautiful parks in Costa Rica. You will be able to visit pristine beaches with coral reefs, bordered by lush vegetation and discover the natural wonders of the coastal rainforest.

The lush landscape along the central Pacific Coast features rice and palm plantations. During your trip, you will make a stop at the Tarcoles River Bridge to see the giant crocodiles in their natural habitat.

On this day, you will enjoy a guided tour in Manuel Antonio National Park, often called a natural jewel due to its picturesque beauty and abundant wildlife diversity. Along the trails, you will have the possibility to see different animals in their natural habitat including sloths and numerous species of monkeys on the treetops, anteaters, iguanas and racoons resting in the tropical jungle, and various birds singing and flying through the park including the fiery-billed aracari.

At various points, the trails that also have with many viewpoints, branch off and lead to four separate beaches: Espadilla Sur, Manuel Antonio, Escondida, and Playita, where you can swim in the crystal clear and warm water, sunbathe or relax and enjoy the beach.
