Of all the face shapes, the oval one is considered the ideal face shape because of its balanced proportions and versatility with different hairstyles and accessories. This is because, typically, the oval face is very balanced with horizontal and vertical proportions: the forehead is usually slightly wider than the jawline, but narrower than the cheekbones, creating a harmonious shape similar to an oval. Although it is named oval face shape, it is rather an egg-shaped face, as the lower face is similar to an egg, and the jawline is slightly narrower than the forehead. The oval-shaped face, which is slightly longer than it is wide, with a rounded forehead and jawline, and the cheekbones as the widest point, is considered very attractive and adaptable. more

The oval face’s length is usually one-and-a-half times the width (its length can also be 1.4 times its width, but not less, depending on whether the oval is more elongated or more rounded), and those who have these measurements are very lucky. While a 1.4 ratio is slightly different from the "ideal" 1.5 ratio, it is still well within the parameters of an oval face shape. It just indicates a face that is slightly less elongated and a bit wider relative to its length than a classic oval shape.
You can find out your face length by measuring the distance from the centre of your hairline at the top of your forehead straight down to the tip of your chin using a tape measure. At the same time, you can discover your face width by measuring the distance of the widest part of your face (cheekbones are the widest part of oval faces, so in this case, measure the distance from one cheekbone to the other). Now, divide the number you got for your face length by the number you got for your face width and see which is the ratio. If your length is about 1.5 times the width (or between 1.4 and 1.5), you are likely an oval. In our image, you can see an oval face shape whose length is 1.5 times the width: 8.1 cm (length) / 5.4 cm (width) = 1.5.
Thanks to its symmetry, the oval face shape is the one that will look great with most of the hairstyles, jewellery, and glasses and below you can find some important tips about it.
As the oval face shape has a lot of symmetry, many hairstyles (haircuts) will look great on it, including middle-part hairstyles. This face shape is enhanced by simple haircuts that leave as much hair as possible uncovered. It’s a shame to cover its perfect contours with too many wisps and overly flouncy layers that can throw off the natural balance.
Women with oval face shapes can opt for any lengths that range from short, medium, or long, but you should know that the longer the hair, the smaller the silhouette looks. Hair length is not independent of height and if you are tall and have a rectangle or inverted triangle body shape (which usually have a shorter torso and longer legs), a high bun or high pony tail will add height to your torso and balance your silhouette in length (you can discover your body type by taking our Body Shape Quiz). On the contrary, more
if you are a short woman with shorter legs and a longer torso, opt for shorter haircuts that will make you appear slimmer. Almost any short hairstyle is fine, but avoid baby bangs and styles that cover too much of your face.
In order to find out your ideal hair length for longer haircuts, measure your face, from your forehead (hairline) to your chin (if you have a thick fringe, start measuring from it), and further measure this length vertically from your chin to your chest (as shown in our image). This will give you the ideal length for longer haircuts. If you prefer medium haircuts, start measuring from the widest part of the face (as you have an oval face, the cheekbones are its widest part) to the tip of the chin, and further measure this length vertically from your chin to your chest (as shown in our image). You will get the ideal length for medium haircuts.
You can wear your hair both straight and wavy, but if you want to elongate your neck, opt for straight hair, which is more vertical than the rounded edges of wavy hair. If you have a shorter neck and wavy hair, find your ideal length for longer haircuts, and stop the hair length just before your chest. Don’t be afraid to show your perfect face as much as possible while choosing your hairstyle. In our image, you can see some of the hairstyles (haircuts) that are more suitable for the oval face shape. However, if you can’t find your favourite hairstyle there, don’t worry, as it will more likely suit you.
Oval face shape is the most versatile for jewellery, so feel free to choose the shapes you like best for your earrings. However, the earring shapes that work best for the oval shape are the drop earrings, hoops, studs, and narrow chandelier earrings. Since oval face shapes are longer than wide, choose earrings that fall above or around your chin to avoid elongating the face any further. Oval faces also have softer lines, so choose earrings with softer shapes (hearts, round, oval, water drop, flowers, leaves) rather than sharp or angular ones.
Since oval faces are symmetrical and balanced, almost any type of necklace will suit them. If you have a longer neck, you can opt for shorter necklaces (choker or princess necklace styles) to draw attention to your neckline and highlight the cheekbones. more
If you have a shorter neck, opt for a medium-length necklace (matinee length necklace styles) so as not to overwhelm your neck. Medium-length or long pendants are a great way to create a more sophisticated flair.
When it comes to both glasses and sunglasses, a wide variety of frame types can work for the oval face shape. If you have small and delicate face features, choose frame types with thinner lines, while if your features are bigger (eyes, nose, lips), choose frames with thicker lines for (sun)glasses.
As for the models, you can choose either square or more rounded (sun)glasses based on your style and personal taste, but since the oval face shape is softer, sunglasses with softer and smoother lines are slightly better. Cat’s eye or butterfly-shaped frames look gorgeous on oval face shapes. In our image, you can see some (sun)glasses that are suitable for oval face shapes. Experiment with (sun)glasses shapes and colours, and choose the ones that you like best.
As the oval face is symmetric, more
you should avoid overly large or small (sun)glasses to not alter your perfect face proportions. Avoid frames that are too high, and check that the frame’s upper rim doesn’t cover your eyebrows. With the face appearing longer than it is wide, you should also stay away from (sun)glasses that are too wide, and opt for those that are as wide, or slightly wider than your face.
